Standing outside Concord Camera, George Pataki said we have to break up the control over the country held by powerful interests. He favors banning members of Congress from becoming lobbyists and a simpler tax code. As for illegal lobbying by Sandia Labs, he said he's not surprised.

Chris Christie private prison lobbyists Iowa State Fair 2015
In New Hampshire, Gov. Christie said private jail facilities shouldn't determine immigration policy to make more profits. However, when I asked him his plan as president to determine policy to benefit people and not corporate lobbyists at the Iowa State Fair, I was disappointed he didn't address a plan or steps and only referred to New Jersey's decreasing prison population.

Olivia approached Gov. Christie at WMUR after the taping of his "Conversation with the Candidate" and asked him about closing the "revolving door." Christie said "you have to," in order to keep former government officials from exploiting their undue advantage for personal gain. But he also said you don't want to bar people with expertise from government service or prevent them from becoming lobbyists forever. He proposes a 4-year gap.

Rubio stated "ultimately you have to uphold the law, so you have to have somewhere to house people" and how Congress doesn't award these contracts to private contractors.

While walking to eat Iowa Sweet Corn during the Iowa State Fair, Carly Fiorina is asked about crony capitalism in the military industrial complex where military officials go through the revolving door into the private sector and receive more government contracts. Fiorina says we need to have “strongest military on the face of the planet” and we need to reform bureaucracy and crony capitalism within the military and Defense department, but doesn’t say how.

Scott Walker at Theo's Pizza
I asked Scott Walker about what we can do to ensure our foreign policy reflects the interests of people and not corporations. He deflected the question and spoke about keeping our troops safe. I brought the conversation to restaurant patrons and news reporters.

After his Aug. 1 talk, I asked Sanders: "Lockheed has been recycling taxpayer dollars to lobby for more nuclear weapons contracts. What steps would you take to make sure the nation's security policy is not driven by Lockheed's profit motives?" His quick response: "strong lobbying legislation."
