Senator Rand Paul was asked about the Justice is Not For Sale Act which calls an end to the 34,000 immigrant detention mandate and private prisons at Drake University. Senator Rand Paul responded by stating he was unfamiliar with both the legislation and the immigrant detention mandate.

Neither Senator Lindsey Graham nor his friend, Senator John McCain, are aware of a budget provision that requires 34,000 "detention beds" for incarcerated immigrants. Senator McCain also professed no knowledge of for-profit immigrant detention centers in his home state, Arizona.

In Indianola, IA, Christian Ucles asked Governor Jeb Bush a question on the immigrant detention mandate and corporations driving federal policy. Governor Bush stated Congress can not dictate the detention of immigrants and that he did not know enough of the detention mandate.

Gov. Martin O'Malley spoke to a group of 50 at a law firm in downtown Manchester. The event was casual. His speech was brief, then answered a question saying he would end the federal immigrant detention quota and stop locking up immigrants for the benefit of private corporations.

Chris Christie private prison lobbyists Iowa State Fair 2015
In New Hampshire, Gov. Christie said private jail facilities shouldn't determine immigration policy to make more profits. However, when I asked him his plan as president to determine policy to benefit people and not corporate lobbyists at the Iowa State Fair, I was disappointed he didn't address a plan or steps and only referred to New Jersey's decreasing prison population.

Marco Rubio West End Salvage meet and greet in Des Moines, Iowa
I asked Sen. Marco Rubio an immigrant lobbying question about the top 2 for-profit prisons, CCA and Geo Group, spending $15 million since 2006 lobbying for policies they directly profit from to build more prisons and immigrant detention centers. Rubio stated "ultimately you have to uphold the law, so you have to have somewhere to house people" and how Congress doesn't award these contracts to private contractors.
