I attended the Jeb! town hall in Alton NH and asked him about the immigrant detention quota. Jeb said he doesn't like "a quota of people behind bars" and added, "I think that policy should change."

Caroline Isaacs, AFSC Arizona Program Director, was on a recent Iowa speaking tour titled “Who Profits from Immigrant Detention and Mass Incarceration?” on Dec. 7-9. She educated first-in-the-nation caucus goers about the problematic private prison industry and immigrant detention centers, encouraging them to question presidential candidates about these issues leading up to the Iowa Caucus on February 1.

Governor Kasich was asked about the immigrant detention mandate in Ankeny, Iowa. He responded the immigrant detention mandate made no sense to him, but still needed more information before making his decision to call an end to it.

Governor Bush took our question on immigrant detention while at Dmacc Newtown Campus and responded by stating he was unsure if it was true but if it was, we shouldn't have it. He has continued to state opposition to the immigrant detention mandate.

I attended the Jeb Bush Town Hall meeting in Franklin NH and was the first question selected. I asked about the immigrant detention quota. He said " I do not think there should be a detention quota."

Neither Senator Lindsey Graham nor his friend, Senator John McCain, are aware of a budget provision that requires 34,000 "detention beds" for incarcerated immigrants. Senator McCain also professed no knowledge of for-profit immigrant detention centers in his home state, Arizona.

Marco Rubio West End Salvage meet and greet in Des Moines, Iowa
I asked Sen. Marco Rubio an immigrant lobbying question about the top 2 for-profit prisons, CCA and Geo Group, spending $15 million since 2006 lobbying for policies they directly profit from to build more prisons and immigrant detention centers. Rubio stated "ultimately you have to uphold the law, so you have to have somewhere to house people" and how Congress doesn't award these contracts to private contractors.
