Greetings from Iowa Staff

Hello! I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself as the new Grassroots Engagement Coordinator here in Des Moines, IA.

Greetings from Iowa. My name is Hector Salamanca Arroyo and I am the new Grassroots Engagement Coordinator based out of the Iowa AFSC office. I am a recent graduate from Drake University, receiving my B.A. in Law, Politics, and Society, in which my professors pushed their students to consider the outside influences impacting how law is shaped in the United States and who benefits. Understanding the influences involved in our political system is important in order to address the issues facing the people of this country.

Previously I had worked in AFSC’s Immigrant Voice Program, during which time in which I was able to develop skills critical to community organizing, specifically being able to adjust to different situations which may arise when organizing an event.

The opportunity to be a member of this program is an exciting one and I am looking forward to engaging in a project aimed at empowering people and holding our elected officials accountable. I want to be able to encourage and engage individuals from broad backgrounds into birddogging and show our elected officials how an issue doesn’t solely affect one populace, but it affects all.
