Rick Santorum said we need to modernize our nuclear weapons and resume testing so that we can be assured they will work. He also acknowledged problems with an election system dominated by billionaires and suggested that deregulating energy production would be a way to reduce corporate cronyism.

After his Aug. 1 talk, I asked Sanders: "Lockheed has been recycling taxpayer dollars to lobby for more nuclear weapons contracts. What steps would you take to make sure the nation's security policy is not driven by Lockheed's profit motives?" His quick response: "strong lobbying legislation."

He said undocumented immigrants are Americans and should not be held in detention for crossing the border; billionaires should not drive the political process; and on spending for vehicles to deploy a nuclear payload, he asked "How many nuclear weapons does it take to ruin your entire day and to destroy your whole country? Why do we need to do this?"
