Rubio Wants Nukes Kept on Hair Trigger Alert

John Raby on January 08, 2016
Senator Marco Rubio wants nuclear missiles kept on hair trigger alert despite the risk of accidents and misjudgments, and a history of technical flaws in the warning systems. However, he said he will study recommendations for de-alerting.

I asked Marco Rubio whether he would take our nuclear missiles off hair-trigger alert.

Sen. Rubio stated that because of the tense national security environment these days, he would keep the missiles on hair trigger alert.

I explained to him that Gen. James Cartwright says that hair trigger alert carries too big and fast a risk of accidental nuclear war.  I gave him a copyy of Gen. Cartright's recommendations, at which point Rubio said he would study Cartwright's proposal.
